ACT Health chooses Patientrack to automate the collection of patient vital signs and assessments using mobile technology

 In General News

ACT Health was a pioneer in the early recognition and timely management of deteriorating patients through its COMPASS program. ACT Health has now begun the process of moving to an electronic Early Recognition of the Deteriorating Patient (eERDP) and has selected Patientrack as the tool to deliver this along with the automation of several standard nursing assessments.

ACT Health initially ran a pilot project of Patientrack on a small number of wards and a post-pilot evaluation has shown many benefits of using Patientrack. Among these were improved legibility of the observations chart leading to safer patient care, increased efficiency and better utilisation of staff expertise and general resources within the ward based on patient complexity because of the increased ability to access patient information and gain an overview of patient needs across the wards, in real time. These benefits have led ACT Health to proceed with the roll-out of Patientrack across all inpatient wards at the Canberra Hospital and the University of Canberra Hospital. This will see ACT Health staff entering patient vital sign information and other clinical documents at the patient bedside.

The rollout to the University of Canberra Hospital has been completed for all wards except mental health. The rollout to the Canberra Hospital has completed on wards excluding Women’ and Children’s, Emergency and Pediatrics which will be rolled out in future.

With an intuitive interface that is accessible on a wide range of mobile devices and workstations, Patientrack will support clinical staff wherever they are located, with real-time patient data, scheduling of work tasks and alerts for patients requiring their attention.  It is expected to quickly deliver benefits to both patients and staff at The Canberra Hospital, providing an improved patient experience.

Kate Quirke, CEO of Alcidion Group said, “We are very pleased to be adding ACT Health to the family of Patientrack users. They are a flag ship customer of MKM Health’s and we have worked with them since our inception as a company 15 years ago.  This is a true partnership in healthcare IT where we have grown with ACT Health as they have developed greater needs around their IT. To be part of their clinical workstation rollout with Patientrack is very exciting and a testimony to our long-standing relationship. We look forward to seeing the benefits the use of information technology will bring to the patients and staff at the Canberra Hospital and the newly commissioned University of Canberra Hospital.”
