Get to know our team – UK Chief Medical Officer Paul Deffley

We are thrilled to introduce Paul Deffley who has joined Alcidion as UK Chief Medical Officer.

A senior clinician with over 20 years’ NHS experience, Paul has led digital transformation in his clinical practice and across a number of organisations, ranging from not for profit social enterprises to UK national organisations.

Paul’s most recent role was Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO) for a group of Sussex Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) where he was responsible for defining the digital strategy and supporting the implementation of digital programmes across Secondary Care NHS Trusts, community providers and Primary Care.

Passionate about the human factors needed for successful digital transformation, Paul has led the successful adoption of digital programmes across a range of healthcare settings and helped to create award winning digital solutions. Paul continues to be a practicing NHS clinician, ensuring he keeps a connection to frontline clinical practice and the key digital issues that are faced on a daily basis. It is his view that maintaining this contact provides constant connection to the reality of clinical care and helps him deliver his CMO role with a focus on solutions that our clinical colleagues actually need.

Commenting on his appointment, Paul said: “The driving reason for me to join Alcidion is the truly innovative offer we have for clinical teams. Our solutions involve adoption of cutting edge features such as natural language processing and AI. These additions are critical if we are to improve patient care and the working experience of our clinical teams. It is something you hear said frequently but rarely do you see it realised, that our digital tools need to become part of the team. Alcidion has the genuine capability of making that a real experience for front line clinicians. Automation, clinical decision support, reducing clinical administration have been designed in conjunction with clinical teams and I am really excited about being part of Alcidion and taking these forward with our modular EPR”.
