What’s new in Miya Precision 7.11.0?

By Kaye Hocking, Chief Product Officer, Alcidion

Every release of Miya Precision is shaped by what we hear from customers and what we see on the ground in clinical settings. This month we are pleased to announce Miya Precision Release 7.11.0, with targeted enhancements designed to strengthen clinical safety, improve workflow efficiency and support better management of patient information across care settings.

Below, I will walk through the key aspects of the latest release, with major enhancements across multiple Miya Precision modules, introduction of new capabilities as well as how to get started on the path to upgrading your organisation today.

Miya Vitals is a new capability in this release and supports the direct capture of vital signs based on charts defined to support the clinical models of various care areas, for example ICU, ED and general wards. The charts determine the set of vital signs to be captured including numeric and textual observations and assigns a suitable schedule for capture. Information is displayed in tabular and graphical formats to inform monitoring of patient progress

While calling criteria is set as part of the vital sign definition, it can be adjusted in the chart based on the needs of a specific patient. Data validation checks are included to support patient safety. These introduce warning thresholds to prevent incorrect entries and improve overall data integrity.

Direct entry of observation data is supported in this release. The next release will provide the capability to capture vital sign details from continuous monitors through integration using specialised middleware to support integration.

Providing this capability directly in Miya Precision extends the scope of clinical documentation capability available to build a comprehensive record of care delivery.

Miya Precision 7.11.0 also sees the introduction of Fluid Balance capability in Miya Precision, enabling a more complete and clinically meaningful view of patient status.

A key enhancement is the introduction of a full monitoring lifecycle, allowing clinicians to manage fluid tracking more dynamically – from initiation through to suspension or cessation as required.

Additional capabilities include:

  • Structured fluid data entry with validation, improving data quality and auditability
  • Configurable fluid sources and documentation, allowing workflows to adapt to different clinical contexts
  • Fluid restriction management, enabling clinicians to define maximum intake limits with automatic calculation based on patient weight

These enhancements improve both usability and safety, helping keep fluid management accurate, compliant and with multiple display options.

The 7.11.0 release introduces new workflow to support the management of inpatient admissions. This capability completes the inpatient encounter management series of admission, transfer, leave and discharge management.

The provision of this workflow in Miya Precision provides clinical teams with a familiar paradigm to manage the inpatient encounter and removes the need to access the Patient Administration System (PAS). The functionality can be used with uni- or bi-directional integration with the PAS ensuring that inpatient encounter details are always aligned. The data set can be aligned to support reporting requirements with form configuration to support local workflows.

The inpatient admission can be used to progress the record of care for patients admitted electively, via emergency or as a direct admission. From a Miya Precision perspective, it can be actioned from the various worklists in Miya Access linking relevant records. It can also be actioned from Miya Record.

Miya Precision was originally positioned to receive this type of Admission Discharge Transfer (ADT) information via integration. It is exciting to extend the solution to natively support this fundamental workflow.

A major focus of Miya Precision 7.11.0 is strengthening patient privacy through improved Restricted Access controls across multiple Miya Precision modules.

A three-tiered access model has been implemented, allowing access to patient records that is appropriately governed based on user permissions.

This model supports:

  • Full access for authorised users
  • Break-glass access, requiring justification via individual PIN and audit tracking
  • No access, with clear restrictions for unauthorised users

All activity is audited and available for view in Miya Record and the Miya Precision Audit Report.

Additional configuration options allow organisations to tailor how restricted patient information is displayed, including obscuring search results, limiting demographic visibility and enforcing access policies across dashboards and records. It has been designed to support the NHS safeguarding principles.

An example of the application of this functionality is assignment of a specific access level to a group of patients whose care should not be visible to the entire user population, for example, mental health. It can also be used to suppress the display and access to high profile patient details.

Given the large range of permutations and combinations that are possible to configure with this capability, specific guidance documentation is available for reference.

These highlights are just some examples of the functionality included in Miya Precision Release 7.11.0. Release documentation is published on Alcidion Connect for reference as well as the Alcidion Client Forum hosted on Microsoft Teams. The documentation includes a Highlights presentation as well as detailed Functional and Technical Release Notes.

The scope of functionality is available to customers based on their current licensing noting some capabilities may require additional licensing and configuration.

This update reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering the functionality your organisation needs to provide the highest quality of care. We look forward to working with you to deploy these capabilities to support your care teams in delivery of effective and efficient patient care.
